The GreenFlag Association was established to:

  • Raise awareness of the importance of proper ventilation in public spaces for the health of employees and customers
  • Provide a standard measurement for testing the air quality in indoor spaces

As a proud service provider to the Green Flag Association, Apex Solutions provide technical support, training, human resources, funding and marketing solutions. We measure, test and report on the indoor air quality of organisations and issue Green Flag Certification.

We also advise corporates on ways to improve the health and safety of their indoor environments, assisting them to fulfil their obligation to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals in ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all.

Many pathogens – including the virus responsible for COVID-19 –  spread through the air, endangering health and lives. Crowding in public spaces, with little or no ventilation, may put you in danger of contracting certain diseases.

CO2 measurements help assess the indoor air quality of public spaces, including for various harmful pathogens such as Covid-19, Tuberculosis and Influenza

Our assessments involve measuring carbon dioxide concentrations in a specific area as it has been shown that the concentration of carbon dioxide levels can be used as a proxy for the levels of other possible contaminants in the air.

Clean, healthy indoor air quality is one of the most important tools to ensure the circulation of clean air in a space, thereby clearing out possible pollutants, including PM 2.5 and PM 10.

GreenFlag certification will not be issued if ventilation controls are inadequate.

  • Studies have correlated high CO2 levels to poor indoor air quality, increased absenteeism, loss of productivity and poor decision making
  • 800 parts per million CO2 roughly equates to 15 litres per second per person
  • A CO2 value maintained as <400ppm above ambient (outside) air limits viral transmission (99.9% risk reduction)
  • CO2 is considered a surrogate gas that represents poor ventilation
  • Any additional CO2 is generated by occupants
  • Ambient (outside) CO2 concentrations vary according to the environment. Approximate reference values are: Rural areas = 350ppm, small towns = 400ppm, city centres = 450ppm) 32.

Take measurements

Apex Solutions’ GreenFlag accredited consultants visit your venue and measure the indoor carbon dioxide (CO2) and PM 2.5 and PM 10. High CO2 levels can indicate the availability of pathogens or toxic gases in the environment, while high PM levels indicate possible toxic particulate matter in the environment.

Report

We report the findings of the air quality assessment of your establishment to the Green Flag Association. The Association compiles the data and decides whether the venue complies with Green Flag certification status.

Consult and correct

If your premises does not meet the required standard for GreenFlag certification, our expert consultants can advise you on the corrective action that needs to be taken to achieve compliance.

GreenFlag certification issued

Once your establishment is compliant, it is rated, and your GreenFlag certification is issued. Your GreenFlag status is communicated to customers and authorities and you can use your GreenFlag status in your marketing.
